October-November 2021 Newsletter MEET TRES BIEN! FOJA supporters are the best! In September we held a Pup-Naming Contest and you responded to the tune of more than $1,900! This sweet boy was brought to Animal Care & Protective Services by a good Samaritan. He had extensive damage to his right front leg and it had to be amputated. This sweet 3-legged boy needed a name, and we got 17 suggestions from which the board voted on  the final name:::::his new name, thanks to the suggestion from Tara Wildes, is ::::DRUM ROLL:::: Tres Bien!!! It means "very good" in French and Tres also means three in Spanish. We think it is the perfect fit for a very good 3-legged dog. Your donations helped cover part of his surgery.   THANK YOU!!! With COVID, we’ve had to significantly limit our events, so our storeroom is full! Do your Christmas shopping early and help animals in need! Watch our Facebook page for our online auctions. Dogs Treated for Heartworm with help from donors like you TAILS & TRAILS OCTOBER 16TH Friends of Jacksonville Animals is excited to be the Jacksonville Arboretum & Botanical Gardens' special guest at the Tails & Trails event on October 16th 1pm to 5pm. Please come out with your dog(s) for a fun afternoon to explore the Arboretum’s natural wonders while enjoying food trucks, signature cocktails and some fantastic live music by area musicians. Tickets are $10 per person. Children under 5 are free. As always, stop by the FOJA table to say hello! 8TH ANNUAL FAMILY PET FAIR & BLESSING OF THE PETS NOVEMBER 13TH FOJA is honored to once again support the 8th Annual Family Pet Fair & Blessing of the Pets. Come by and visit our table! The event hosted by St. Philip Neri Animal Ministry will be held Saturday, November 13, 2021 from 10am to 2pm at Fletcher Park, 1652 Atlantic Blvd. in San Marco. This fun-filled event will include vendors with items for pets and people, food, “Best in Show” contest, pet related demos, pets available for adoption, lots of awesome items for sale at the “Charity Sale” area and a blessing of the pets. ACPS SELECTED FOR FLORIDA ANIMAL FRIEND GRANT  We are pleased to announce that Animal Care & Protective Services has been chosen as a grant recipient for the Florida Animal Friend annual grant award. With this additional funding the shelter will be able to provide hundreds of additional free spay and neuter surgeries for free-roaming cats in our community.   These valuable grant awards are funded by the adorable neuter and neuter license plates you see on vehicles around the state. Florida Animal Friend receives $25 each time a Florida spay and neuter license plate is purchased or renewed.   Get your own Spay and Neuter license plate! https://floridaanimalfriend.org/purchase-a-plate/. WJXT CHANNEL 4'S PET PROJECT Remember to tune in every Saturday morning at approximately 8:50 am to WJXT Channel 4’s Pet Project where FOJA highlights a beautiful dog or cat available for adoption at Animal Care & Protective Services, along with upcoming events and adoption tips. URGENT SHELTER NEEDS Animal Care & Protective Services can always benefit from supply donations. Current needs include:  Vienna Sausages/hot dogs (the Behavior Department has found Vienna sausages to be great for making friends with the pups) Beef Tracheas (we fill them and use them for dogs that need higher value enrichment) Block cheese (the vet staff has found that block cheese is a great snack to hide needed medications) Canned kitten food (preferably Purina Pro-plan or Fancy Feast) Supplies can be delivered to the shelter at 2020 Forest Street, Jacksonville FL 32204, Tues-Sun 12pm-6pm.  You can also have supplies delivered directly to the shelter by purchasing via the shelter's Amazon wish list.
