FOJA turns 16 years old!

Happy Sweet 16 FOJA!

Sixteen years ago, a group of shelter volunteers started Friends of Jacksonville Animals (FOJA) around Margie Yarborough’s dining table. With your ongoing support, we have been able to help many animals in Duval County. We manage our funds carefully, ensuring that every bill is paid immediately, which builds trust with our veterinary partners.

As our donations and event income have increased, we have expanded our programs. Initially focused on treating heartworm-positive dogs, we now also provide diagnostics and surgeries for sick or injured animals. We supply foster and behavior programs with necessary items and work to prevent animal surrenders by offering essential resources like vaccines, fencing supplies, and crates.

This progress reflects the vision of our early volunteers who aimed to solve local animal issues. We hope to make those founding members, and everyone who has supported us over the years, proud of our achievements. Although the journey can be tough, we stay committed to our mission of advocating for and supporting the animals in our community. Thank you for being a vital part of FOJA's journey as we continue to make a positive impact on the lives of shelter animals.

Helping Hands Helping Animals

FOJA, an all volunteer organization, was formed in 2008, and is dedicated to the well-being of homeless animals received by Animal Care and Protective Services. Each year, the shelter takes in thousands of unwanted, abused, and neglected animals. Our focus is to end unnecessary euthanasia, educate the public about responsible pet ownership, and enrich the lives of the shelter animals. All funds donated to FOJA go directly toward achieving these goals.

It is FOJA's mission to help.
